Kitchen Renovation Basics: Tips and Tricks to Get the Kitchen of Your Dreams
Congratulations on your decision to re-design your kitchen. Kitchen renovation is a great way to enhance your home while also making the family’s dining experience more memorable and fun. Before you get started, here are some tips to take note of, to ensure you make the most out of the revamp.
First, choose high-quality building materials. Your aim should be to make your kitchen look good for longer. For instance, choose cabinet hinges and handles which won’t rust or corrode over time. Choose wooden or metal for your cabinets instead of laminates, so that you can be assured of their longevity.
Choose a color-scheme that welcomes most colors as contrasts. Darker walls with dark-colored appliances make a kitchen look crowded. When planning your kitchen renovation, pick a light color for your walls, preferably something that makes a nice contrast for the color of your appliances and furniture.
In addition to choosing a color-scheme, you will also need to decide on whether you would like to paint your furniture, or simply stain them. Painting, of course offers a solid color to your cabinets. Staining the wood simply adds a shade to the wood, but will not last as long as painting them will.
Invest in an elegant countertop of superior quality. This is where you will be working when in the kitchen. It has to be sturdy, but still has to exude class. Stained wood and white, acid-washed marble are classic designs. Limestone and Kirkstone slate are also nice on the eyes.
Finally, keep the add-ons simple. Accents and details on cabinets, ovens, and refrigerator should be kept to a minimum to prevent clashing of designs. Remember, in kitchen renovation, less is always more.
